For several years in a row a pair of American Bald Eagles nested in a highly visible location about 1/2 mile from my house at Herring Cove. Imagine those huge raptors gently caring for their vulnerable chicks.

Humpback Family Album

I found a used book, "Humpback Whales of the
Central and Eastern North Pacific:
A Catalog of Individual Identification Photographs." There were all the whales, identified by the black and white patterns on their flukes. The scientists gave them numbers; I have given these 9 whales names.

Great Blue Herons are known to hunt at night. The light for this heron's activities was provided by the comet that visited our skies the winter of 1997.

Murrelets Two

The Marbled Murrelet belongs to the Alcid family (puffins, auklets). Endangered in the lower 48 because of their requirement for old growth timber for nesting, Marbled Murrelets seem to be doing fine in Alaska. They often appear in pairs.

I was driving home late one evening and was forced to come to a full stop for a small kitten sitting in the middle of the road. Imagination led to this image of a sea lion. Sea kitten????
